Communications, Marketing And Brands...Oh My!

I've been reading a terrific book, Do More Good, by nonprofit marketing pioneer Bill McKendry. After nearly 30 years of working with nonprofits, he says one of the biggest obstacles that keeps them from growing is the question they don't ask: "What's the difference between marketing and branding?"

His answer is pure gold: "Marketing does something. A brand is something." I would add that there is a third wheel on the tricycle - Communications. In this short video, I sort out the differences and why I work with nonprofits to combine them into an integrated, seamless approach.

By the way, I get a lot of questions about videos. The research all says that adding video to your emails and social media content gets your communications noticed and engages your supporters. However, people worry about the cost and difficulty of making videos. This video was shot on a smartphone and edited using free software!
